Previous Lives
Quandl
I was the co-founder and Chief Data Officer of Quandl, a venture-backed tech startup that was acquired by Nasdaq in a meaningful exit.
Quandl pioneered the category of “alternative data for finance” – datasets, like credit card transactions or satellite imagery, that hold untapped information for capital markets investors. Our customers included almost all of the largest hedge funds and investment banks in the USA.
As co-founder, I wore lots of hats at Quandl. I headed all things data; raised venture capital; led finance, marketing and ops; built an excellent team; and perhaps most importantly, set culture and vision.
Simplex
I started my career as a coder, researcher, trader, and eventually portfolio manager at Simplex, a large quantitative hedge fund based in Tokyo.
While at Simplex, I built one of the industry’s first algorithmic trading systems, for high-frequency arbitrage of U.S. Treasuries. I also led Simplex’s US office, and was head of all trading ex-Japan.
