London Airport

Christopher Logue

 Last night in London Airport
 I saw a wooden bin
 labelled UNWANTED LITERATURE
 IS TO BE PLACED HEREIN.
 So I wrote a poem
 and popped it in.

Commentary

I found this pearl in the ninth edition of “Poems of the Underground”. I found the book at a used book sale and it’s one of the best books I’ve bought.

This particular poem is amazing in that’s it’s so small and simple and yet so pleasing. You can interpret the poem in so many different ways. A witty pun, perhaps, and nothing more? Or a peek into the insecurities of the poet? Either way, you can’t help but smile.
